Gianna Patriarca is an Italian-Canadian author and educator. She was born in Ceprano (Frosinone), Italy, in 1951. At the age of nine, she immigrated to Toronto, Canada, along with her mother and sister, in order to join her father. Patriarca holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature with a Minor in Italian Studies and a Bachelor of Education, both from York University in Toronto. She taught in the public school system until her retirement in 2006. An active and recognized contributor to the Toronto arts scene, she continues to participate in community events and educational initiatives, such as lecturing regularly in universities and conducting literary readings for children.
