Naval commanders Sir John Hawkins and Sir Martin Frobisher are sent from England to try to intercept the Spanish Plate fleet off the Azores. However, this operation is a failure, since Philip II orders the flotilla to remain in America. The Revenge is captured by the Spaniards and Sir Richard Grenville is mortally wounded.
