In 1973, the United States bombed Cambodia extensively. This bombing campaign followed a rupture between North Vietnam and Cambodia’s communist government. The bombing also followed a cease-fire agreement in Paris between the United States and North Vietnamese communists. However, the Cambodian communists did not abide by the agreements. Overall, the American bombing of Cambodia stalled the communist attacks on Phnom Penh, Cambodia’s capital, and devastated the surrounding countryside.
