The second presidential impeachment trial in U.S. history began on 7 January. It started in the GOP-controlled Senate. Clinton was acquitted on 12 February. The perjury article failed, with 45 votes. The obstruction of justice article drew a 50-50 vote, with a two-thirds vote needed for conviction.
