, was first published in 1986 and has since had a significant impact on Icelandic literature . During the year of its release, the novel – and indeed its captivating novelty – enjoyed immediate praise and attention (Valdimarsdóttir 2017).

Tímaþjófurinn guides its readers through the main character’s, the thirty-seven-year-old Alda Ívarsen’s, experiences in the realm of love and life – that is, her haps and mishaps, even though the narratives of misfortune outweigh and outnumber those of luck.
