Dr Anita Heiss is a prolific author, educator, public speaker, literary critic and a proud Wiradjuri woman. She is an inventive and versatile artist, with her writing spanning several genres such as commercial women’s fiction, poetry, travel, social commentary and historical fiction.

Heiss grew up in the eastern suburbs of Sydney, Matraville, as the child of a Wiradjuri mother and an Austrian father. As Heiss states on her official website, her mother was born on Erambie Mission Cowra in Wiradjuri country, with most of her family living around Tumut, Brungle, Griffith and Sydney. Her father came from a little village called St Michael in the Lungau, Salzburg, and his family are all from Austria.
