The British was able to push the Germans back towards Lens and Loos. However, complications ensued for the British (problems with communications, supplies and artillery), and both sides suffered great losses. On October 8th the Germans launched a major offensive, but more heavy losses forced them to abandon the attempt to recapture lost ground.
