On the 14th of June, 1775 the Second Continental Congress formed the American Continental Army, in order to coordinate the troops of the Thirteen Colonies against the British. George Washington (22nd February, 1732 - 14th December, 1799) was elected its Commander-in-Chief on the 15th of June.
