Context

In Paris, placards appear overnight printed with anti-Catholic messages, taking a Zwinglian attitude to the Eucharist and deriding the orthodox view of the Mass. One of the placards is even posted on the door of the King's bedchamber. This bold statement provokes a rigorous persecution of heretics in the city.
