Augustus II of Poland (and Saxony) dies. After his death, powerful nobleman Nicholas Potocki excludes non-Catholics from office, in an attempt to secure the succession of Stanislaus Lesczcyinski. Although he takes the throne for the following three years, he is eventually deposed in favour of Augustus II's son Augustus III.
