Lord Durham's Report on North America is debated in the House of
Lords. John Lambton, Lord Durham, had spent five months in Canada
the previous year in an attempt to ascertain the causes of the
recent rebellion there. In his resultant report, he recommended
that the two territories of Lower and Upper Canada be unified to
make government of the colony easier.
