European powers meet at the Constantinople Conference to consider territorial issues of the Ottoman Empire. Attended by representatives of Britain, France, Germany, Austria-Hungary, Italy, Russia and the Ottoman Empire, it concludes that autonomy should be granted to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and two Bulgarian provinces. The Sultan's eventual decision to reject these proposals leads to the outbreak of the Russo-Turkish War the following year.
