In May, the Tennessee Valley Authority was created by an Act of Congress. The TVA is a public corporation and was created to control floods, improve navigation, and produce electrical power along the Tennessee River. The establishment of the TVA was part of a broader New Deal program aimed to aid Americans during the Great Depression.
