Emir Timur founder of the Timurid Empire exploited the civil-war induced weakness of Sultan Nasir-u Din Mehmud of the Tughlaq Dynasty in the north Indian city of Delhi to invade the region. His campaign, launched on the pretext that the Muslim Delhi Sultanate was too tolerant toward its Hindu subjects, was primarily inspired by the wealth of the Delhi Sultanate.
